RE -GARY NEVILLE

Started by: GOLDEN BEAR (6556)

I have just finished reading an article by Gary Neville , on his podcast in which he has opened up his heart on his beloved club, MAN.UTD. In it he says that he is utterly demoralised at the state of the club ,in actual fact he goes on to say that he NO longer wants to watch them, nor does he want to even commentate on them any more for it hurts him at the demise of the club ,the under achievment of the players themselves , he goes on to say also they have NO pride in themselves ,No heart, he is also sick of the wrangling over the ownership saga , for since his mentor S.A.F retired the club have spirraled terribly and for him when he has been a player for all those years and going thro the comradship they had ,and now he sees a complete and utter lack of anything relotely like those days , i agree with it must hurt . AS for what the answer is god only knows , as he says these player's today are on very, very good wages but, there is absolutely bugger all happening with them. He also mentions the loyal fans ,if you say on average take away the speckie's at home games you have in the region of some hard core 60-65 thousand fans there every home game ,they are showing true loyalty ,but they are NOT getting that back from the present crop of player's, finally we all know of ROY KEANE he is another true RED and his comments too are SCATHING of the standard of quite a lot of the present squad so as we all know there is SOMETHING DEFINATELY WRONG AT O/T whilst asknowledging MAN UTD do not have a divine right to be top year on year BUT having said what we the fans cannot tolerate is for the last 8/9 years or so this is NOT THE Man Utd WE WANT ,WE JUST WANT THEM TO COMPETE AND TRY ,,THAT'S NOT A LOT TO ASK IS IT????????????

Fair post GB...I really feel sorry for whoever is now running the club because of the twenty years of Fergie winning everything and his dog, it's difficult for fans to accept which unfortunately is now second best.Whilst Fergie was the tops he seems to have left an impossible legacy for the people following him.... just an opinion

G B.
A most thought provoking post .
I have read the comments from the ex players you mention.
Cast your mind back .
The same stuff was being said when Utd were relegated to the old second div 2...I still supported them in those days ,traveling up and down the motorways and A Roads in all weathers
And again when Fergie came and we showed little progress .
Having said that it did appear that some players v Newcastle could be accused of being non triers .
To reiterate .It has happened before .
Stick by your team and keep the faith .

Correct grimshaw, there are many fans who have been following the club long before Sir Alex took over and know exactly what it is like to have very little success, these barrack- room lawyers are well wide of the mark when surmising that fans find it difficult to accept that they are no longer leading the way (at the moment )

Chatty, I presume your comment about barrack room lawyers was aimed at me because I said fans are finding it difficult watching a team who's not what it used to be . Are you happy at their position , are you happy as GB has said about what's happened over the last years I don't think you are. I t was not a critisism of Utd but an overall opinion of maybe some of the problems they have..... but you being a red specs fan can't accept anything but praise for your club object against anything said regarding Utd then I feel sorry for you... Is it any wonder there's so many abus on this section...have a nice day

the whole point about being a supporter & fan is to back the club up anyway you can ? you dont see peter g or erling coming on here & decrying their team do you ? .there,s just 1 person on here who,s responsible for the abuse & you know who it is .

Not happy at all about their position but I am a realist that knows no team can be at the top all the time.
I have no problem with criticism of my club but if that is what you are labelling what one bloke is doing on here day after day week after week month after month you are badly wrong
PS Glad you have noticed the amount of "abu's on this section" it wasn't just mt imagination then

But you have mentioned on a number of occassions about "United fans being unable to accept criticism" and I am pointing out that 99% of what gets posted on here isn't that it is a bloke showing his pathetic hatred
I always try and have a nice day

First of all gentlemen thank you for re-commenting on my post , there are a few items i wish to address and they are , number one is for WHUPS my mate whilst partly agreeing with you i believe that as a fan yes we don't have a right to be top of the tree every year ,BUT i feel very strong that we the fans have the right and should voice our concerns if things are shall i say going to the wall !!!! By that i mean it's good to critisise at times.
Secondly ,to you FRECKY , I too respect your opinion after all isn't that what free speech is all about ?? Also i thank you for your wise comments to me you seem think and care before you comment .
Third , IS to also my dear friend Mr G. I do recall in the past your comment on "keeping the faith & stick with them "" Which i will i guess always do too. On the remark about us being relegated to DIV 2 that was also the time me and my best friend at the time did exactly what you did we travelled home &away to almost every match we used to save our coupons out of the programme's so at the end of the season you could get into the draw for a cup ticket ,i also recall i was an agent selling weekly draw tickets at where i worked it was i think the O/T DEVELOPMENT thingy? anyway with being an agent i was drawn out and recieved 2 free F.A.CUP final tickets for the one against ARSENAL we lost if you recall. Those day's of Gordon Hill /Stevie Coppell/ Stuart Pearson /the Greenhough Bros? Martin Buchan/ect and off course the famous manager TOMMY DOC ! WOW what a era that was , so what i'm trying to to say is yes there were good times and aslo bad ones , but since S.A.F. left alas the club has swayed away too far in my view too. Yes things will come again i just hope i'm around for that (haha) Ps Do you remember another hero Denis Law when he backheeled the goal that sent us down?? Finally you do agree then with the debacle at Newcastle it is as plain as the nose on your face ,a few players DID NOT WANT TO know < and as a fan that hurts , just as they were made to come back out and applaud the travelling fans ,( they should do that irrespective) to sign off thank you one and all again for your comments .have a nice day !

It took S A F a few years to sort out the toxic drinking culture at O T when he was appointed in 1986 from Atkinson .
He had inherited a damaging culture when he became manager at Aberdeen and again it took a few years to sort out .
Some of his team selections baffled many including myself BUT we still supported him .
I do believe ETH is treading a similar path in that he is trying to sort a similar toxic culture at the club and is aware that it will take time .
Again some team selections puzzle me for instance Martial .But it will be so wrong to sack him I M O.

I accept that no team can stay at the top for ever and are bound to be criticised .
But now is the time to get behind the team and the manager as i have for well over 60 years.
Keep the faith .

Correct grimshaw, I can clearly recall United playing Millwall in Feb 1990 whilst sitting 17th in the league and they were 18th, that is one place above the relegation zone after three quarters of the way through Fergie's third full season in charge, imagine a manager getting that amount of time these days (Or even worse the board sacking him at that point)?
Need to get behind the manager.

whups don't worry about him "losing the dressing room"......I know where he can find it from the time I took my lad on the stadium tour

We will be back at the top of English AND European football .It is a bigger certainty than Shergar was in the Derby
Its only a matter of time .
Believe and keep the faith .
